Self-Initiated Project
Redesigning the travel platform experience for the U.S. National Park Service. The project scope was to build a new central content management system, create a new information architecture, and a new booking system for inspiring travelers to make a decision about coming to visit one or many U.S. National Parks.
In addition, I'd like to create an interactive mobile app that connects to the parks when visitors are going through trails. AR (augmented reality) would be used to point out specific features of the terrain and give facts about past history.

Break Down
The project scope was to build a new central content management system, create a new information architecture, and a new booking system for inspiring travelers to make a decision about coming to visit one or many U.S. National Parks.
Building Foundations
My challenge was to consolidate a disconnected and inconsistent brand experience on the website.
At the time, their current website was outdated in style, non-ADA compliant, and difficult to navigate. I had to bring a unified feel to the website all whilst creating content that would stand out from search results on Google, Expedia, and Trip Advisor.
Personas
Locals - Individuals and groups that are looking fort a holiday destination in their own country.
Needs: Awareness media, travel deals with itinerary personalizations and self-service features.Business Investors - Local stores looking to promote their business can do so.
Needs: Access to travel agents, brochures, and trade information on U.S. National Parks.International Travelers - First-time travelers are easily overwhelmed with options and have a specific concern for detail. Require multiple touchpoints and validation.
Needs: Detailed reviews, itinerary planning, travel and VISA requirements with access to travel agents.
Competitor Analysis
I looked at a range of tourism sites to draw inspiration from both in terms of site navigation, site components, and tourism marketing features.
• Visit California
• Travel.State.Gov
• NPLSF
• NYC.Gov
Card Sorting, Flow Charts, & Wireframes
All essential in order to create mocks for the users to test out. New unified information architecture that took into account the Business events and Trade platforms alongside the travel site. In addition, I added a State selection and a self-service utility toolbar that users could access from anywhere on the site.

Outcome
In link sending, we user-tested with 5 individuals who closely match our tourism personas. I created a test script focusing on first impressions, navigation to desired content, booking a trip through the planner, discovering deals, overall satisfaction rating, and possible platform improvements.
My ideal range to launch this product would be over the course of 4 to 5 months.
